A man jailed Tuesday night in a fatal shooting in Las Vegas was previously convicted of manslaughter in the killing of a teen in the Las Vegas Valley a decade ago, according to police and court records.
Alexian Rodriguez-Navar, 25, was booked at the Clark County Detention Center Tuesday night on suspicion of murder with a deadly weapon, discharging a gun into an occupied structure and of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm. He was booked under a police event number stemming from a fatal shooting that occurred around 5 p.m. Tuesday in the 5700 block of East Pavot Court, near East Sahara Avenue and Hollywood Boulevard.
Las Vegas police Lt. Robert Price said the shooting involved a dispute between neighbors. The victim, a man in his 40s, died at the scene. His identity has not been released.
The suspected gunman was taken into custody after emerging from a nearby residence.
“It appears that they’re neighbors and they were in some type of dispute in the past couple weeks,” Price said Tuesday night. “Today, the victim neighbor came home and as he was getting out of his car, the suspect neighbor came out of his house with a rifle and began shooting at our victim, striking him several times.”
Court records show Rodriguez-Navar was arrested in April 2016 in Las Vegas on 18 different felony counts, including murder, attempted murder, assault and conspiracy. Las Vegas Review-Journal news archives, along with court records, indicate Rodriguez-Navar’s arrest stemmed from a melee, stabbing and shooting near the Hollywood Recreation Center that killed Angelo Barboza, 15, and left four others injured.
Rodriguez-Navar was 15 at the time.
District Court records show Rodriguez-Navar entered into a plea agreement in the 2016 case. He pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit battery, battery and voluntary manslaughter with use of a deadly weapon. He was sentenced in December 2016 to two years incarceration followed by five years of probation. If he didn’t successfully complete probation, he faced eight to 20 years in prison, according to court records.
Rodriguez-Navar received an honorable discharge from probation in 2020.
Las Vegas Justice Court records show Rodriguez-Navar was arrested in September 2023 in Las Vegas on suspicion of being a prohibited person in possession of a gun, discharging a gun and possession of gun with altered serial number. The Clark County district attorney’s office decided not to pursue charges in the case.
In October 2023 he was charged with possession of a gun by a prohibited person and possession of drug paraphernalia. Information on the resolution of this case was not available. In January 2024 he was arrested on a possession of drugs charge and pleaded no contest and was sentenced to time served.
Rodriguez-Navar was scheduled to appear in court on a murder count Wednesday afternoon.
