A homebuilding giant has drawn up plans to blanket the former Eastside Cannery site with a new subdivision.
Lennar Corp. is looking to develop a 279-lot housing tract on the now-vacant former hotel-casino property on Boulder Highway at Harmon Avenue in the eastern Las Vegas Valley, Clark County records show. The project site spans about 29.5 acres and would feature a community of two-story single-family homes.
The Clark County Planning Commission is scheduled to consider the proposal Tuesday.
Casino owner Boyd Gaming Corp. imploded the Eastside Cannery’s hotel tower in March, after saying it intended to sell the site for residential use.
In general, developers often go under contract to buy a property and then close escrow after they obtain project approvals for the site.
A spokesman for Boyd did not respond to requests for comment, and efforts to get comment from Lennar were unsuccessful.
The Eastside Cannery had been closed since the onset of the pandemic, and Boyd previously said there was not sufficient market demand to reopen the property.
All told, this is not the first time that Miami-based Lennar — one of the biggest homebuilders in the country — set out to redevelop a former casino site in Southern Nevada.
Lennar has started site work on Texas Station’s old footprint in North Las Vegas, after the builder drew up plans for a 373-lot project with a mix of townhomes and freestanding single-family houses.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
