A 33-year-old Las Vegas woman was killed in a crash involving a suspected DUI driver Wednesday afternoon in the southwest valley, police said.
The Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release that the crash, which involved a 2020 Toyota Sienna and a 2021 Tesla Model Y, occurred just before 5:15 p.m. on West Warm Springs Road west of Montessouri Street, near South Rainbow Boulevard.
Police said the crash happened when the eastbound Toyota crossed into the westbound lanes.
The Tesla attempted to veer out of the way as the Toyota began veering back into the eastbound lanes. However, the two vehicles hit each other, police said.
The Toyota’s rear passenger was taken to University Medical Center, where she later died.
The driver of the Toyota, Calvin Hayashi, 73, of Las Vegas, was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center after he was determined to be impaired, police said. Hayashi faces a felony count of DUI resulting in death and a misdemeanor count of failure to drive on the right side of the road, according to Las Vegas Justice Court records.
The Tesla’s driver, a 24-year-old Las Vegas woman, was not impaired, the release said.
