Bishop Gorman has released its 2026 football schedule, which will feature several of the nation’s top teams, participation in a postseason tournament after the Nevada high school football state championships and several 4A charter schools.
The Gaels open hosting 5A league opponent Losee on Aug. 14 and then will play their next four games against out-of-state opponents.
They host St. John Bosco (California) on Aug. 21, then go on the road to play Columbus (Florida) on Aug. 29, Lone Peak (Utah) on Sept. 4 and Mater Dei (California) on Sept. 18.
Gorman will play the rest of the season against Nevada opponents, following hosting Faith Lutheran on Sept. 25 in its final 5A league game.
The Gaels will conclude their regular season playing four charter schools, mainly from Class 4A, after 30 CCSD public schools moved their football programs to independent status beginning for the 2026 season and decided not to play any private or charter schools during nonleague competition.
Gorman’s schedule, released on the team’s social media accounts, concludes with the Overtime Nationals, with its date listed as “to be determined.”
A report from On3 and Rivals in May said the Overtime Nationals could expand to a four-team playoff to crown a national championship. Last December, the Overtime Nationals was a one-game de-facto national championship game between St. Frances (Maryland) and Corner Canyon (Utah).
After the 30 CCSD schools announced their independence in March, the remaining seven 5A and 4A private and charter schools worked together to fill void on their schedules with one another left by the CCSD schools’ move to independent status.
Gorman’s Nevada state football playoffs will look different as well. The top two Class 5A Southern football teams will play in a state semifinal, where the winner will play the third-place 5A team for an Open Division state championship.
The loser of the state semifinal will play the Northern champion for the 5A state title.
