The family of a man who was shot and killed while at work at a Las Vegas store earlier this week said they are heartbroken after the “unimaginable loss” of a devoted son and brother.
Brandan Lucas died while at work at the Five Below store following a “senseless act of violence and jealousy” at around 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, according to a GoFundMe digital fundraiser started by organizer Shekiera Wright.
Wright, of North Las Vegas, described Lucas as a beloved family member who meant everything to his family.
“Brandan was simply doing his job when his life was stolen far too soon,” Wright wrote. “This tragedy has left our family heartbroken, shocked, and struggling to process an unimaginable loss.”
Wright wasn’t immediately available Friday to comment. The Metropolitan Police Department said Wednesday that police received several 911 calls at about 4:30 p.m. reporting that an employee was shot at a business at 2152 N. Rainbow Blvd., near West Lake Mead Boulevard. A Five Below is located at that address.
Metro said officers arrived at the scene and found a man in his 30s with gunshot wounds. Lt. Robert Price said officers rendered aid to the man, but that he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Price said the suspect, a man in his 20s, entered the store and asked for a specific employee. When the man found the employee, the suspect fought him, pulled out a gun and shot the man, Price said.
Price said the suspect fled in an unknown direction. He added officers were investigating for a motive but said police believe there was “some type of correlation” between the suspect and the victim.
A Metro spokesperson said Friday that a warrant is out for the suspect’s arrest but did not provide the suspect’s name.
GoFundMe: Lucas lit ‘every room he walked into’
On the GoFundMe page, Wright said Lucas loved spending time with his friends and family and always “brought energy, laughter and light into every room he walked into.”
“Brandan loved having fun, making memories, and being surrounded by the people he cared about most.
Wright also wrote that Lucas’ family is deeply heartbroken by the sudden loss.
Proceeds from the GoFundMe will go toward funeral and memorial expenses, as well as other costs, Wright said.
“Brandan’s absence leaves a void that can never be filled,” Wright wrote.
Wright urged anyone with information to contact law enforcement. Price Wednesday night asked that anyone with tips contact Metro’s Homicide Section or Crime Stoppers of Nevada.
