
Aslynn Hello went 3-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs Friday as Desert Oasis, seeded second in the Desert League, scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to defeat the Sky League’s top-seed Tech 9-7 in the losers bracket semifinals of the 4A state softball playoffs at Sierra Vista.
The win lifted the Diamondbacks (17-3) into Saturday’s 10 a.m. championship game, where they will play Faith Lutheran.
Kaitlyn Dunigan added two doubles and two RBIs for Desert Oasis, while teammates Ali Perkins and Veyda Simon had three hits apiece.
The Roadrunners (23-6), who reached the semifinals by beating Legacy earlier in the day, scored two runs in the top of the seventh to help extend the game.
No. 1S Tech 18, No. 1M Legacy 10: The Roadrunners advanced to the semifinals by scoring in every inning of their victory over the Longhorns (25-10).
3A state softball playoffs at Spanish Springs
No. 2S Pahrump Valley 2, No. 1S Virgin Valley 0: Jaycie Hayes struck out 11 while pitching a complete-game four-hitter to lift the Trojans (32-8) into the title game with a semifinal victory over the Bulldogs (22-14). Pahrump will play Lowry for the championship at 10 a.m. Saturday.
No. 2N Lowry 8, No. 1S Virgin Valley 4: After defeating Fernley 10-8 in the early losers bracket game, the Buckaroos (30-6) advanced to the championship with a win over the Bulldogs. Mady Wright went 2-for-4 with an RBI to lead Virgin Valley.
2A state softball playoffs at Needles
No. 1N Battle Mountain 8, No. 2N Yerington 3: The Longhorns (31-3) scored seven runs in the first three innings of their semifinal win over the Lions (26-10). Battle Mountain will play Needles at 10 a.m. Saturday in the title game.
No. 1S Needles 6, No. 2N Yerington 0: The Mustangs (18-15) scored five runs in the first inning and never looked back in their losers bracket semifinal win over the Lions. The victory lifted Needles into the championship game.
No. 1S Needles 8, No. 2S White Pine 6: A four-run sixth inning helped the Mustangs rally into the semifinals with a victory over the Bobcats (17-10).
1A state softball playoffs at Smith Valley
No. 1N Wells 2, No. 2N Pyramid Lake 1: The Leopards (23-4) stunned the Lakers (25-9) with two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to advance to Saturday’s 10 a.m. title game. The teams will have a rematch in Saturday’s final.
No. 2N Pyramid Lake 12, No. 2S Round Mountain 5: Trista Kelly had four hits to help the Lakers earn a spot in the title game with a losers bracket win over the Knights. Round Mountain (14-9) defeated Pahranagat Valley 13-10 to reach the semifinal.
4A state baseball playoffs at Sierra Vista
No. 1D Silverado 11, Mater East 0: Taika Mago pitched a complete-game shutout to lead the Skyhawks (21-11-1) past the Knights (26-8) in the losers bracket semifinals.
Hogan Hawkins went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to help Silverado, which plays Tech for the championship at 10 a.m Saturday. The Roadrunners defeated the Skyhawks 5-2 in the winners bracket semifinal Thursday.
No. 1S Mater East 10, No. 1M Clark 9: Andres Matheus had a home run, a double and two RBIs to lead the Knights to an eight-inning losers bracket victory over the Chargers (23-10). The win lifted Mater East into the semifinals.
3A state baseball playoffs at Spanish Springs
No. 1N Elko 10, No. 1S Boulder City 7: Spencer Aten went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and three RBI, but a late Eagles (20-13) rally fell short in a winners bracket loss to the Indians (30-3). Elko advanced to Saturday’s 10 a.m. with the win.
No. 1S Boulder City 14, No. 2N Wooster 0: In the semifinals, the Eagles survived an elimination game with a victory over the Colts (24-11). Spencer Aten went 3-for-3 with a home run, a double and four RBIs for Boulder City, which advanced to Saturday’s title game.
Gavin Robinson and Will Teeples had three hits apiece for the Eagles.
No. 2N Wooster 4, No. 2S Virgin Valley 1: Tray Hughes went 2-for-4 with a double for the Bulldogs (19-11), but they could not get past Colts pitcher Cooper Fuss (five hits, five strikeouts) in an elimination loss. Wooster advanced to the semifinals.
2A state baseball playoffs at Needles
No. 2S Lake Mead 11, No. 2N Yerington 9: Ryder Schuette went 4-for-5 with a home run and six RBIs as the Eagles (20-6) earned a spot in Saturday’s 10 a.m. title game against Needles with a win over the Lions (30-5).
No. 1S Needles 8, No. 2N Yerington 1: The Mustangs (17-13) rolled into Saturday’s championship game with a losers bracket semifinal victory over the Lions.
No. 1S Needles 12, No. 1N North Tahoe 2: The Mustangs advanced to the semifinals by racking up 16 hits in a five-inning elimination win over the Lakers (25-8).
1A state baseball playoffs at Smith Valley
No. 1S Pahranagat Valley 10, No. 2S Liberty Baptist 0: The Panthers (21-7-1) rolled past the Knights (14-17) to secure a spot in Saturday’s 10 a.m. title game against Smith Valley. Liberty Baptist fell into the losers bracket.
No. 1N Smith Valley 16, No. 2S Liberty Baptist 15: A five-run seventh-inning rally fell just short for the Knights, who were eliminated by the Bulldogs (21-3) in the losers bracket semifinal.
No. 1N Smith Valley 4, No. 2N Mineral County 3: The Bulldogs overcame a 3-0 deficit to beat the Serpents (16-9) in six innings. Smith Valley advanced to the semifinals.
