You know when your drunk uncle gets up at a wedding to give relationship advice after being divorced multiple times? That was Vladimir Putin in your March 1 article “Russia blasts strike on Iran: ‘Unprovoked’.” Russia condemned the strikes as “a pre-planned and unprovoked act of armed aggression against a sovereign and independent U.N. member state.” Sound familiar?
Moscow went on to accuse the United States and Israel of “hiding behind” concerns about Iran’s nuclear program “while actually pursuing regime change.” Well … it’s not as if they were hunting Nazis while actually pursuing a land grab.
Russia goes on to warn the attacks risk triggering a “humanitarian, economic and possibly radiological catastrophe“ in the region. Humanitarian? Russia fires hundreds of missiles and drones at civilian buildings daily, killing thousands of innocents and destroying energy infrastructure in an effort to deprive people of heat during one of the coldest winters in memory.
But the last part is the kicker. The risk of a “radiological catastrophe”? This from the former USSR, which brought us the worst radiological disaster in history (Chernobyl) and who is now endangering Europe’s largest nuclear plant (Zaporizhzhia).
And finally, Moscow offered to help broker a “peaceful resolution” betweeni its main provider of drones and the Unitd States “while placing full responsibility … on the United States.”
At least your drunk uncle probably had the best of intentions. Not Putin.
