The local chapter of an organization that encourages girls to pursue jobs in aviation plans to hold an event Saturday at a corporate hangar on the west side of Harry Reid International Airport.
The Las Vegas chapter of Women in Aviation will open MGM Resorts International’s Hangar 5 at 5050 Koval Lane for the four-hour open house. The event begins at 9 a.m. and is free to attend.
“Girls in Aviation Day is all about inspiring the next generation and giving them a glimpse of all the different opportunities the industry offers,” said Michelle Miller, president of the Las Vegas chapter of the international nonprofit group with more than 16,000 members worldwide, in a news release.
“We want young girls to see that the sky is not the limit when it comes to their future,” she said. “Whether they dream of becoming a pilot, an engineer, an air traffic controller or working in aerospace technology, there’s a place for them in aviation.”
Girls and boys ages 8-18 can explore the world of aviation and aerospace through hands-on activities, inspiring speakers and interactive exhibits.
The local event is one of an estimated 150 events taking place worldwide on Saturday to reach thousands of participants.
Women in Aviation International provides networking, mentoring, scholarships and educational outreach and is supported locally by MGM Resorts, Prologis and Universal Aviation along with several community sponsors and participants.
