Las Vegas Valley gasoline prices have spiked 17 cents in the last week as diesel prices in Nevada continue to hit daily all-time records.
As of Friday, a gallon of regular unleaded gasoline in Southern Nevada was $5.17, up 2 cents over Thursday, 41 cents in the last month and $1.21 from the same time last year, according to AAA.
“Crude oil remains high, averaging $100 per barrel amid continued volatility in the Strait of Hormuz.” Doug Johnson, AAA Mountain West Group spokesperson, said in a statement. “The national average is inching closer to this year’s record high of $4.56 set on May 21.”
Friday also saw diesel hit the highest price ever recorded in Las Vegas at $6.66 per gallon on Friday. The price of diesel is up 7 cents since Thursday, 30 cents in the last week and 88 cents from one month ago. On the same date last year, the price for a gallon of diesel fuel was $2.72 cheaper at $3.94, according to AAA data.
Statewide, the average price of diesel is $6.71, also an all-time record for Nevada. Patrick De Haan, lead petroleum analyst for GasBuddy said on social media platform X that all but Texas and Oklahoma have hit the $6 per gallon or greater mark for a gallon of diesel in the U.S., noting the two states would likely eclipse that mark Friday. The national average for a gallon of diesel fuel as of Friday was $6.44, according to AAA.
The price for regular unleaded gas remains below the all-time high of $5.67 per gallon set on June 16, 2022.
Nevada has the fourth-highest gas prices in the nation at $5.22 per gallon, only behind California ($6.11 per gallon), Washington ($5.57) and Hawaii ($5.48).
