The Metropolitan Police Department on Monday shared additional details about the Friday shooting by an officer in the west Las Vegas Valley that hospitalized one woman.

Assistant Sheriff Dori Koren met with members of the press at 3:30 p.m. Monday to provide more information on the shooting.

Metro Capt. Adam Seely said Friday that two officers were in the College of Southern Nevada parking lot when “they were approached by an agitated female who was in possession of an edged weapon.”

Seely said the woman, later identified as Catalina Alverado, 26, banged on the side of the officers’ vehicle and demanded she be shot by the officers. Officers ordered the woman to drop the weapon and, when she didn’t, one used an “electronic control device” on the woman, Seely said.

“When it was ineffective, the other officer discharged their firearm and the suspect was struck,” Seely said. Metro identified the officer as Delylah Donegan, 28.

Alverado was taken to a nearby hospital and listed in critical condition Friday. The officers were not injured.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
