New cake-shake chain opens first store in Henderson

Southern Nevada’s newest milkshake chain is open for business.

Shook Shakery held a ribbon-cutting ceremony Saturday for its first store at 3360 St. Rose Parkway in Henderson. The ownership group, which includes a co-founder of bakery chain Nothing Bundt Cakes, plans to open three more locations in the Las Vegas Valley over the next several months.

Its menu consists of milkshakes mixed with cake.

Perla Iniguez, who works in the leasing office of a neighboring apartment complex, had heard about the connection to Nothing Bundt Cakes and wanted to see the twist on the creamy dessert.

She had never had a milkshake mixed with cake before and enjoyed the sample she got on Saturday.

Her co-worker Tifani Hall noted that, after the store took shape in a former drive-thru-only Starbucks, they drove a golf cart over to check it out on Saturday.

“We’ve been waiting,” Hall said.

Designed as a retro-themed brand with Instagram-friendly photo opps, Shook Shakery is rolling out drive-thru stores. There is no indoor seating, but the stores will have walk-up windows and outdoor seating with umbrellas.

Co-owner Dena Tripp — who helped launch Nothing Bundt Cakes and has stressed the milkshake business is unaffiliated with the bakery chain — said Saturday that the Henderson store was open this past week, following a friends-and-family event.

She said the location has sold an average of around 100 milkshakes per day, which, she added, was pretty good considering the public wasn’t formally notified that it was open yet.

The other locations are penciled for Blue Diamond Road near Decatur Boulevard in the southern valley; on Durango Drive at Post Road in the southwest valley; and on Deer Springs Way near Durango in the northwest valley.

Those three sites are being developed from the ground-up, while the only existing building in the bunch was the one on St. Rose.

On Saturday, the customers there included Gretel Williams. She came with her daughter, Alana Williams, and 1-year-old granddaughter to try it out, and figured the concept sounded good.

“I’m a milkshake fanatic anyway, so I don’t care how it comes,” Gretel Williams said.
