SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. — For the second consecutive year, a Little League baseball team from Nevada is the best team in the United States.
Paseo Verde will play for the Little League World Series championship after defeating Hamilton, Ohio, 12-2 in five innings in the U.S. title game at Lamade Stadium on Saturday.
The team from Henderson, which improved to 14-0 this summer dating back to the district tournament, will meet Curacao for the world title on Sunday. First pitch is noon PST.
Paseo Verde will look to become the first team from Nevada to win the world title. Summerlin South made it to the championship game last year, but lost to Chinese Taipei in the final.
Owen Guzman, making his first start since Aug. 21, threw 3⅔ innings on 88 pitches. He jumpstarted the offense with a leadoff triple in the bottom of the first, then scored the game’s first run on a passed ball.
Guzman added an RBI single during a five-run second inning that gave Paseo Verde a 6-1 lead.
Hamilton starting pitcher Josiah Infante was chased after 33 pitches and lasted 1⅓ innings.
Carsynn Meyer recorded her second hit and second RBI of the tournament during the inning, and Maddox Bryan hit the go-ahead two-run single.
Guzman couldn’t get out of the fourth inning, walking three and hitting a batter while leaving the bases loaded with two outs.
Payton Hinsen got out of the inning with a flyout to center.
This was a rematch of both team’s opener of the tournament on Aug. 21 that Paseo Verde won 6-5 on a walk-off single.
