As homeowner priorities continue to evolve, many Southern Nevadans are investing in home improvements that enhance lifestyle, increase property value and make better use of their properties.
Recent changes to Nevada law have fueled growing interest in accessory dwelling units (ADUs) and casitas. Assembly Bill 396 requires local governments to update regulations governing ADUs and streamline the approval process, expanding opportunities to add flexible living spaces for family, guests, home offices and other uses.
Rather than focusing solely on buying a larger home, today’s consumers are exploring a variety of ways to improve their homes, from secondary units and remodeling projects to new-home construction, outdoor living areas, smart home technology and water-wise landscaping.
From ADUs and tiny homes to outdoor kitchens and backyard retreats, these trends will be on display at the Home Improvement &Backyard Expo, presented by Intermountain Health and the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Sept. 11-13, at World Market Center.
The expo will showcase the show’s popular Tiny Home Showcase, featuring innovative designs, space-saving features and homes designed for simplified living, affordability and mobility. Attendees can also meet ADU, casita and new homebuilders, explore design options, learn about permitting and financing and gain insights into integrating additional dwellings into existing residential properties.
Another trend gaining momentum is demand for functional, comfortable outdoor spaces. Homeowners are increasingly investing in full backyard kitchens, entertainment areas, shade structures, pergolas, patios and outdoor rooms that extend usable space beyond the home’s interior.
Technology continues to influence home improvement decisions as well. Smart home products, energy-efficient upgrades, electric vehicle charging stations, and innovative remodeling solutions are helping homeowners improve convenience, comfort and efficiency while adding value to their properties.
Reflecting the growing emphasis on sustainable landscapes, Master Gardeners of Nevada will offer daily seminars and roundtable discussions featuring advice on container gardens, herbs and vegetables, selecting desert-friendly plants, attracting birds and bees, managing pests and creating thriving desert gardens suited to Southern Nevada’s climate.
The Home Improvement &Backyard Expo will take place Sept. 11-13 at the Expo at World Market Center.
