A’ja Wilson has made a habit of making her presence felt against the Toronto Tempo.
That trend continued Friday night at Michelob ULTRA Arena, where the four-time MVP led the Las Vegas Aces with a game-high 27 points, adding eight rebounds and two blocks in a 93-73 victory over Toronto.
Wilson led Las Vegas in scoring in all three meetings against Toronto this season, following 26- and 27-point performances in the Aces’ first two matchups while shooting a combined 21 of 29 from the field.
Guard Jackie Young was the Aces’ second-leading scorer Friday, finishing with 23 points, including three consecutive 3-pointers to open the game, while adding four rebounds and eight assists.
Young entered the game averaging 18.8 points per game while shooting 38.5 percent from 3-point range. The five-time All-Star had shot better than 40 percent from 3-point range in three of her previous four games.
The win allowed Las Vegas to complete the season-series sweep over the Tempo and enter the FIBA World Cup break with momentum despite losing starting forward NaLyssa Smith to a season-ending left leg injury earlier in the week.
With the eight-team playoff field already set, the victory kept Las Vegas in third place Friday at 27-13, one game ahead of the Indiana Fever and one and a half games ahead of the Atlanta Dream with five regular-season games remaining.
The top four teams in the league standings will earn home-court advantage in the opening round of the playoffs.
