Talk about a non-starter story: James Comey and the so-called nefarious arrangement of seashells on a North Carolina beach is just that. But the Trump Department of Justice won’t let it die. The idea that the so-called seashells set out in a fashion that was supposed to depict “86 47” is an ominous threat to President Donald Trump is laughable.
Mr. Comey, the former FBI director, is no paragon of virtue — by any means — posted a picture of the arranged seashells on the beach and said he did not do the deed. He said he was walking on the beach, saw the shells and posted a picture of them on social media, calling them a “cool shell formation.”
Does it matter if Mr. Comey laid the shells out or someone else? Of course not. Because to claim it as a dangerous threat to the president is ridiculous. My understanding has always been that to “86” someone is to fire, refuse to serve and put someone out of an establishment. There is no inherent threat of harm in the expression and Justice Department officials know it. They are grasping at straws in this endeavor and are looking foolish. Give it up already.
