
The first AP college football poll of the season was released Monday morning, and while receiving votes, UNLV was outside the top 25.
The Rebels are tied for 39th nationally with four votes with fellow Mountain West Conference member New Mexico, Georgia Tech and Louisiana. Navy, an American Conference member, is 31st with 10 votes, while Boise State enters the season as the highest-ranked Group of Five team at No. 28 with 43 votes.
UNLV’s Week 0 opponent, Memphis, received two votes, placing the Tigers 45th nationally.
The Ohio State Buckeyes top the poll with 40 first-place votes, followed by the Oregon Ducks with 14. The poll was voted on by 69 media members who cover college football for the AP and other news organizations.
The Rebels will open their season in 12 days at Allegiant Stadium, looking to build on a program-record 30 wins over the previous three seasons when they face Memphis on Aug. 29.
The College Football Playoff championship game is scheduled for Jan. 25 at Allegiant Stadium.
