Construction of the Harry Reid International Airport Connector Tunnel will reduce both northbound and southbound traffic lanes for the next five months.

“It’s going to provide a much smoother drive for tourists and for locals,” said Amanda Mazzagatti, public affairs administrator at Reid airport. “We’re currently focused on modernizing and updating our facilities, and the airport connector tunnel is really the gateway to our campus.”

The Clark County Department of Aviation gave Las Vegas Paving a repaving contract for up to $2.4 million for this project, according to airport spokeswoman Monika Bertaki.

Only two lanes of traffic remain open each way. From 12 a.m. to 5 a.m. both directions will be reduced to a single lane.

“I would certainly allow for more time, especially if traveling during peak traffic hours,” said Mazzagatti.

The Harry Reid Airport website also encourages visitors to plan ahead and consider construction when driving to the airport.

The Airport Connector Tunnel deteriorated over the years from mineral deposits from hard water leaking down from above. This will be the first time that this road will be completely repaved in 32 years.

Construction started last Monday and Mazzagatti anticipates the project will be completed by the end of 2026.

The Harry Reid project will overlap with two other construction projects in its vicinity. The Nevada Department of Transportation is repaving the portion of Sunset Road that borders the airport, a project they plan to finish by the end of the summer. The Clark County Department of Public Works is also working on the Interstate 215 and Airport Connector Interchange Project which they anticipate will finish next November.
