The Las Vegas Raiders offense got the season off to a great start.
Coach Klint Kubiak elected to put the majority of the offensive starters on the field to start the game, and they delivered with a touchdown to grab a 7-0 lead over the Arizona Cardinals 5:16 into the first quarter at Allegiant Stadium on Thursday night.
Kirk Cousins went 5-for-6 for 50 yards and a score on the first drive of his Raiders debut, hitting Jack Bech in traffic for a third-down conversion to move the chains early in the drive before connecting with Michael Mayer for a 13-yard touchdown on another third-down attempt.
Second-year running back Ashton Jeanty and picked up three tough yards on his first carry and finished the opening drive with 16 yards on three carries.
Jackson Powers-Johnson, who has been splitting reps at times with Caleb Rogers at right guard, got the start along with regulars Kolton Miller, Spencer Burford, Tyler Linderbaum, and D.J. Glaze.
While Brock Bowers was announced with the starters, Mayer and Ian Johnson handled the tight end duties on the opening drive after what appeared to be a cameo appearance on the first play.
