A Las Vegas judge on Thursday dismissed the ‘fake electors’ case against the six Republicans accused of trying to hand Nevada’s electoral votes to Donald Trump after he lost in 2020.

District Judge Mary Kay Holthus previously expressed skepticism about the case, saying that she did not think the defendants had any chance of giving Trump the votes.

“I’m struggling,” she told attorneys earlier this year. “I’m back and forth. I could probably argue both your sides.”

Those accused included Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald and Jesse Law, who was chair of the Clark County Republican Party but lost his position in July when a new chair, Jill Douglass, was elected.

They were being prosecuted by the office of Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford, a Democrat currently running for governor.

In her order, Holthus said she did not think prosecutors had proven the essential elements of the charges the defendants faced: offering false instrument for filing or record and uttering forged instruments: forgery.

A parallel criminal case in Carson City also has been dismissed, according to Carson City District Court staff.

This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
