A wildfire near Area 15 on what was once part of the Nevada Test and Training Range is at 12 percent containment, covering nearly 13,000 acres.
Nevada’s Bureau of Land Management office said in a release Friday that activity in the Quail Springs Fire in Lincoln County remained relatively light overall, with isolated group torching and creeping fire behavior. Firefighters continued using retardant and ground resources to keep the fire within established containment lines.
The fire, first reported Saturday morning, was caused by lightning, according to the agency. No evacuations and no publicly accessible structures are threatened.
Nevada State Highway 375 may be impacted by smoke depending on fire behavior.
Hot temperatures, very low humidity, and poor overnight humidity recovery are expected to continue through early next week. Afternoon winds around 10 to 15 mph may keep the fire active, with continued growth possible primarily toward the northwest as it follows available fuels.
As winds decrease, fire activity is expected to become more influenced by terrain and available vegetation.
