A 28-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the shooting of a Samaritan who tried to stop a robbery Thursday night. The victim later died after crashing his car into a palm tree following the shooting, according to police.
Metropolitan Police Department Lt. Robert Price said police received a 911 call around 5 p.m. Thursday reporting gunfire near the 100 block of Upland Boulevard, near Jones Boulevard and Interstate 11.
Officers at the scene discovered a man in his late 30s with an apparent gunshot wound had crashed his car into a palm tree, Price said. The man was taken to University Medical Center where he later died, Price added.
Witnesses gave police a description of the alleged shooter, a man in his late 20s, and police took him into custody a few blocks away from the crash, Price said.
Police on Friday identified the suspect as Rodger Harrison.
Harrison was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on suspicion of open murder, robbery and carry concealed weapon without a permit
Detectives learned a woman was selling flowers on a nearby street corner when the suspect robbed her of her flowers, according to Price. He said the victim saw the robbery from his car and exited the vehicle to try and stop the suspect.
