An e-bike rider suffered life-threatening injuries in a suspected DUI crash Sunday evening in the northeast Las Vegas Valley, according to police.

The Metropolitan Police Department said in a news release that the crash happened at about 6:02 p.m. at East Cheyenne Avenue and North Pecos Road.

According to police, evidence at the scene, witness statements and surveillance video indicated that a lifted Chevrolet pickup was stopped at a red light in the northbound right-turn lane on Pecos Road at Cheyenne Avenue.

An e-bike was traveling northbound on Pecos Road and passed the line of stopped traffic on the right as it approached the intersection.

As both the e-bike and the pickup truck attempted to turn right onto eastbound Cheyenne Avenue, the pickup struck the rider, knocking him to the ground. The rider was then struck by the vehicle, police said.

The man was transported to UMC Trauma, where his injuries were determined to be life-threatening.

The driver of the pickup truck, identified by police as 32-year-old Fernando Jr. Martinez, remained at the scene and displayed signs of impairment.

Police said Martinez had two juveniles, ages 9 and 11, in the vehicle at the time of the crash.

Martinez was booked into the Clark County Detention Center on applicable charges.
