So Gov. Joe Lombardo generated a little heat from his supposed “running a red light” while turning right. I’ve been driving in Las Vegas about 60 years, and I have to admit to pretty much never (unless, of course, another car is crossing the intersection) making a full stop. The description of the “egregious” infraction sounded to me like exactly what I do 95 percent of the time.
If this is indeed a case of a “rolling stop,” I understand the governor’s reaction of, “Oh, come on man.” In fact, I think I may have used that one myself on occasion. It worked all but two times when the officer would not bend and cited me. So two tickets in 60 years of driving and never an accident says something.
The governor’s detractors will, of course, make hay out of the story, but it will be a desperation attempt that won’t have legs. As far the governor “attempting to flex his political muscle,” I saw none of that. But don’t press your luck, gov.
