Real estate group with hundreds of Las Vegas-area members changes name

A commercial real estate association with hundreds of members in the Las Vegas area has changed its name.

NAIOP announced Wednesday that it is now called the Commercial Real Estate Development Association, or CREDA.

Jamie Schwartz, executive director of CREDA’s Southern Nevada chapter, said in a news release that the name change more accurately reflects what the group is and does, both locally and across the country.

Nationally, the group traces its roots to 1967, when several industrial-property owners and developers met in Pennsylvania to create an industry group, leading to the formation of the National Association of Industrial Parks, according to CREDA’s website.

In 2009, with its membership spanning a range of commercial real estate sectors, the association “retired the words” behind the NAIOP acronym, the website says.

Today, CREDA boasts 55 chapters in North America with 21,000 members.

Locally, it has more than 800 members, according to a representative for the chapter.

In Southern Nevada, real estate associations such as CREDA often host panel discussions on industry trends and other gatherings.
