Nevada’s top class of 2027 high school football recruit has made his college decision just before the start of his senior season.
Four-star Bishop Gorman cornerback Hayden Stepp made his verbal college commitment to Oregon on Wednesday.
Stepp, listed at 6-foot-3 and 190 pounds, is rated as the No. 61 overall class of 2027 prospect by 247Sports and the No. 6 cornerback in his class.
Stepp held 40 Division I offers, according to 247Sports, with schools such as LSU, Miami, Ohio State, Tennessee and Notre Dame among other notable offers.
In April, Stepp revealed his top four list with Alabama, Cal, Georgia and Oregon. This month he updated his list to Alabama, Cal and Oregon as his final three options. According to 247Sports, Stepp visited Alabama in late May, and this month visited Oregon, Cal and Georgia, respectively.
Stepp will have a familiar face in the secondary at Oregon. Former Gorman safety Jett Washington this fall will begin his college career playing for the Ducks. Washington was rated as the top class of 2026 recruit in Nevada.
As a junior last year, Stepp had 24 tackles and four pass breakups, and was a first-team All-Southern Nevada selection as the Gaels won the Open Division state title. Stepp is rated as a five-star and No. 16 overall class of 2027 prospect by ESPN.
Stepp has 58 tackles, 12 pass breakups and three interceptions in his high school career at Gorman, which has won the last five state titles in the top classification.
The Gaels’ 2026 nonleague schedule includes showdowns with St. John Bosco (California), Columbus (Florida), Lone Peak (Utah) and Mater Dei (California), and could see the program compete at the end of the year in the Overtime Nationals, an expected four-team national tournament to coin a national champion.
Eleven of the top 13 class of 2027 recruits in Nevada, ranked by 247Sports, have made their college commitments. Three-star Gorman wide receiver Gavin Honore, a Mater Dei transfer, and three-star Gorman tight end Seager Milholen, a Central Catholic (Oregon) transfer — ranked as the No. 5 and No.8 recruits, respectively — have yet to make their college commitments.
