The massive American flag at Hoover Dam has been taken down for repairs.
The flag, measuring about the size of a football field, was unveiled on Memorial Day as part of a celebration for America250, commemorating the 250th anniversary of the country.
However, Hoover Dam’s Facebook account shared an update on the flag, which unexpectedly tore and was taken down Tuesday afternoon.
“At this time, we do not have an estimate of when the repair will be completed. We appreciate your understanding and patience as we work to restore the flag to its full glory,” the post read.
The flag’s size and exposure to the harsh elements of Southern Nevada has proved challenging. Just a few days after its debut, strong winds prompted the Bureau of Reclamation to temporarily remove the flag.
While the flag is down indefinitely, the nightly light show will still go on as usual, Hoover Dam’s Facebook post said, as the display will continue through July 4.
