Daniele Monroe-Moreno and Scott Black will compete for North Las Vegas mayor in November after emerging Tuesday as the top finishers in a race that will shape the leadership of Nevada’s third-largest city.

Monroe-Moreno and Black secured the two highest vote totals. Monroe-Moreno received 45.8 percent of the vote, followed by Black with 43.3 percent.

Candidates Henry Thorns, Zaire Langdon and Gary Bouchard trailed behind.

Black, North Las Vegas’ mayor pro tem, has represented Ward 3 on the City Council since 2017 and has campaigned to continue the city’s growth and public safety efforts.

Monroe-Moreno is a state assemblymember, chair of the Nevada Democratic Party and former correctional officer whose campaign focused on neighborhood investment and economic opportunity.

Gary Bouchard, a businessman, also ran for mayor. Zaire Langdon entered the race as a community advocate, while Henry Thorns, a retired military veteran, rounded out the five-person field.

In the Ward 1 City Council race, Esmeralda Villeda and Sherry Strothers advanced after receiving the highest share of votes. Villeda earned 38.9 percent, while Strothers received 37.7 percent.

Candidate Diana Ramirez finished behind.

North Las Vegas municipal races are nonpartisan, meaning candidates run without party labels, and the top two finishers advance unless a candidate wins outright with a majority of the vote.

In the Ward 3 City Council seat, Ida Zeiler appeared to be winning the seat with 62.6 percent of the vote over William E. Robinson II, who had 37.4 percent.
