Las Vegas native Kyle Busch’s NASCAR Cup Series team Richard Childress Racing announced Friday it will suspend the use of the No. 8 following Busch’s sudden passing.
The team announced in a statement on its social media accounts that Busch’s No. 8 Chevrolet that was scheduled to race in Sunday’s Coca-Cola 600 at Charlotte Motor Speedway will be renumbered to the No. 33 car for the remainder of the season.
RCR added that the No. 8 will be saved for Kyle’s 11-year-old son Brexton for when he makes it to NASCAR.
The statement from RCR reads: “Richard Childress Racing has elected to suspend use of the No. 8 and will run the No. 33 at Charlotte Motor Speedway and beyond. Kyle Busch was instrumental in the design of RCR’s stylized No. 8 and it has become synonymous with Kyle and an important symbol for his fans and the NASCAR industry.
“No one can carry it forward to the level that he did. The No. 8 is reserved and ready for Brexton Busch when he is ready to go NASCAR racing.”
Austin Hill will race in Sunday’s Cup Series race in the No. 33 car.
