The sanctions handed down to the Vegas Golden Knights and coach John Tortorella for not following media regulations have been upheld by the NHL, a league source confirmed to the Review-Journal.
The Knights had an in-person meeting with the league in New York on Tuesday morning, with the league standing firm on the $100,000 fine for Tortorella and the Knights losing a second-round pick in this year’s draft.
Tortorella’s fine will stand. The draft pick, however, could be lessened if the Knights show compliance moving forward. As it stands, the Knights will not have a draft pick until the third round.
The sanctions were handed down after Tortorella declining his postgame media availability following the Knights’ series-clinching Game 6 win over the Anaheim Ducks on Thursday at Honda Center.
That, accoording to a team spokesperson, was due to the Knights needing to catch their team bus in a timely fashion in order to make their flight home in a timely manner.
It was another line of repeated violations, according to the NHL, where multiple warnings were made toward the Knights over media regulations that are written in the collective bargaining agreement.
The Knights open the Western Conference final against the Colorado Avalanche at Ball Arena in Denver on Wednesday.
