The man accused of fatally shooting the mother of his children and her new husband at a Las Vegas supermarket last week told police that he gunned the couple down “because she was ruining his life and would not stop.”
After the shooting, the gunman left a red file folder with court documents tucked under the woman’s arm, police said.
Alejandro Estrada, 43, circled the produce section as Amanda Frias Rosas, with whom he shares two children, and Victor Frias Rosas were shopping at a Smith’s grocery store at 9750 S. Maryland Parkway on May 12, according to police.
As they turned into aisle four, Estrada shot them each three to four times in the back, “and then conducted a magazine change and shot them both one more time as they lay on the ground,” police said.
Amanda and Victor Frias Rosas were pronounced dead on the scene.
Estrada, who was in a child support dispute with Amanda Frias Rosas and was concerned about going to jail over unpaid support, was tackled and subdued by witnesses, according to police.
Metropolitan Police Department detectives later interviewed Estrada at University Medical Center, where, they said, he told them he had been forced to pay child support that he could not afford.
“Alejandro stated this was when he made the decision that he would have to kill Amanda because she was ruining his life and would not stop,” the report said. “Alejandro stated he shot Victor because he was part of the problem, too.”
Police said in the report that Estrada had kept the folder in his backpack and had left it to “show police why he shot them.”
Estrada appeared briefly in court Tuesday morning for a hearing in a home invasion case separate from his murder case.
Prosecutor Laura Rose asked Las Vegas Justice of the Peace Amy Wilson to dismiss the home invasion case because she said Estrada’s cases had been consolidated. Wilson dismissed the case.
Estrada is due back in court on June 29 for a preliminary hearing.
