One month of high school football remains for the 30 independent Clark County School District programs.
The season for independent football teams ends Oct. 23, when the Superintendents Cup will be crowned across the three divisions for the CCSD teams.
Beginning Friday, CCSD teams have three weeks remaining on the regular-season portion of their schedule to conclude league play. The top two teams in each of the two leagues in each division will play crossover games for the Superintendents Cup.
Through the first two weeks of league play, it has become clear who the contenders are. And in other divisions, not as much.
Here is a look at the contenders for the Superintendents Cup in each of the three divisions:
Division I
Favorites: Arbor View (West) and Liberty (East)
Arbor View and Liberty have long been the two top public school programs in Nevada, and both teams are in prime position to win their leagues.
Arbor View (2-3, 1-0 Division I West) has won its last two games after playing out-of-state teams, which includes a 55-34 win over rival Centennial in its league opener. Liberty (3-2, 2-0 Division I East) has opened league play with a 42-0 win at Desert Oasis and a 48-17 win against Foothill.
Challengers: Centennial (West), Coronado (East), Foothill (East) and Shadow Ridge (West)
The race for second place in each league will be the most interesting. Foothill, Coronado, Centennial and Shadow Ridge are the most complete teams in Division I behind Arbor View and Liberty.
The East League could get settled Friday when Foothill (3-2, 1-1 Division I East) hosts Coronado (4-1, 1-0), where the winner will sit comfortably in second place. Centennial (3-3, 1-1 Division I West) and Shadow Ridge (3-2, 2-0) play on Oct. 9 to determine the West League’s second spot.
Division II
Favorites: Legacy (West) and Palo Verde (East)
We got a preview of the possible Division II Superintendents Cup title game when Palo Verde outlasted Legacy 28-26 on Aug. 21. Palo Verde won three games last year and Legacy only won two games in 2025.
Palo Verde (5-0, 2-0 Division II East) has beaten teams in a variety of ways — defense, running game — against quality opponents in the area. Legacy (4-1, 2-0 Division II West) has used its running game to average 35.8 points per game and defeated Clark 27-26 in overtime last week.
Challengers: Basic (East), Clark (West) and Green Valley (West)
Basic was 0-10 last year and has been one of the surprises in Southern Nevada. The Wolves (4-1, 1-0 Division II East) have turned the page after losing their season opener 42-8 to Foothill and have allowed an average of 13 points on their four-game winning streak.
Clark (3-2, 0-1 Division II West) and Green Valley (3-1, 2-0) play at 7 p.m. Friday at Green Valley in a game that will determine the West League’s other spot for the Superintendents Cup. Many games between Division II opponents have been decided by one score, making the margin of error thin for all of the top teams in the division.
Division III
Favorites: Del Sol (East) and Sunrise Mountain (East)
Division III is the most up-for-grabs battle across all three divisions. Del Sol (4-0, 2-0 Division III East) has leaned on its solid defense that is allowing an average of 11 points per game and racking up 214 rushing yards per game.
Sunrise Mountain (4-1, 1-1 East League) is coming off a 33-32 loss to Eldorado, but the Miners are still one of the strongest teams in the division, led by San Diego State commit and DT Roma Pulefaasisina (nine sacks).
Challengers: Cimarron-Memorial (West), Eldorado (East) and Valley (East)
The East League is much deeper compared with the West, which is why Valley and Eldorado are still in the hunt to unseat either Sunrise Mountain or Del Sol. Valley (2-2, 0-1 Division III East League) lost to Sunrise Mountain 26-24 in overtime and hosts Eldorado on Friday in what will be an elimination game for Superintendents Cup contention.
Cimarron-Memorial (2-3, 2-0 Division III West) leads the West League with wins over Western and Bonanza, and still has Cheyenne and Rancho left.
