A 62-year-old man died several days after he was struck by a van last week in the east Las Vegas Valley, according to the Metropolitan Police Department.

Fernando Rolon was pronounced dead by medical staff at University Medical Center on Saturday after suffering life-threatening injuries following a crash Sept. 1 on East Mountridge Drive, east of North Hollywood Boulevard, Metro said in a news release Monday.

Police said the crash happened shortly after 7:30 a.m., when a 2017 Ford Transit van traveling west on Mountridge drifted to the right and struck the left rear of a landscaping trailer attached to a 2015 Ford F-150 parked along the north curb of westbound Mountridge, just east of Hollywood.

Rolon was on the left side of the trailer removing landscaping equipment while another pedestrian was retrieving equipment from inside the trailer, police said. After the initial crash, the van struck Rolon and projected him onto the roadway before coming to a stop.

Emergency medical personnel responded and transported Rolon to UMC Trauma, according to the release. Police said the second pedestrian, who was not identified, received minor injuries.

The driver of the van, Juan Manuel Acevedo, 29, remained at the collision scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. He showed no signs of impairment.

The crash remains under investigation, according to the release. Rolon’s death marks the 83rd traffic-related fatality in Metro’s jurisdiction in 2026.
