Prep rankings: Sloan Canyon, Mater East, Faith Lutheran move up in football

Southern Nevada high school fall sports rankings

Football

1. Bishop Gorman (3-1)

Breakdown: Bishop Gorman defeated Lone Peak (Utah) 38-14 and has a bye this week in preparation of its final scheduled out-of-state game at Mater Dei (California) on Sept. 18. Liberty lost a close game to Skyridge (Utah) 24-20 and gets into local play at Desert Oasis at 6 p.m. Thursday in a Division I East League matchup. Brandon Quaglio had five catches for 131 yards and three touchdowns to lead Sloan Canyon past Losee 49-7, and the Pirates have a bye this week.

Centennial and Arbor View face off at 7 p.m. Thursday in a Division I West League battle as both teams look to bounce back after losing to Arizona schools. Centennial lost to Perry 55-14 and Arbor View fell to Hamilton, ranked No. 16 nationally by MaxPreps, 44-0. Mater East moved up after defeating University City (California) 51-20 and has a bye this week before the Knights play Sloan Canyon on Sept. 17.

Foothill’s Saturday game against Mililani (Hawaii) was called in the third quarter due to an altercation with the Falcons trailing 34-3. Foothill plays at Las Vegas High at 7 p.m. Thursday. Palo Verde is coming off a bye and hosts Durango at 6 p.m. Thursday. Coronado had a bye and plays at Desert Pines at 7 p.m. Thursday. Faith Lutheran outlasted Damien (California), one of the top teams in California’s Division II, 35-31 on an 80-yard touchdown pass from Jacob Dushoff to Mello Carter in the fourth quarter and the Crusaders host Morgan (Utah) at 6 p.m. Friday.

Next five (alphabetical order): Clark (3-0), Desert Oasis (2-1), Desert Pines (2-1), Legacy (2-1), Moapa Valley (3-1).
