For the second time in three years, Paseo Verde is playing in Williamsport, Pennsylvania.
The Little League baseball team based in Henderson is back in the Little League World Series. Paseo Verde begins play Thursday against West Side Little League from Hamilton, Ohio, the winners of the Great Lakes regional.
Paseo Verde made it to Howard J. Lamade Stadium after winning the Mountain Region championship in San Bernardino, California, on Friday.
Here’s what you need to know about Paseo Verde:
Success in Nevada
This is the fourth consecutive year that a Nevada team is playing in Williamsport and the fifth time since 2014.
The first run from 2014 by Mountain Ridge Little League saw them reach the U.S. Championship game before losing to Jackie Robinson West Little League.
However, the Chicago-based team was stripped of its championship and had all wins vacated for using an incorrect boundary map to recruit ineligible players.
Mountain Ridge was awarded the championship.
Paseo Verde reached the third round in 2024 before ultimately losing to eventual champions Lake Mary Little League (Florida).
Is this the same team that was World Series runners-up last year?
No. Summerlin South was the team that went on the magical run all the way to the finals before losing to Chinese-Taipei.
Summerlin South won its first three games before its first loss, then needed a three-run home run from Garrett Gallegos in the top of the sixth inning against Irmo, South Carolina, to advance to the U.S. championship.
They went on to avenge their loss to Fairfield, Connecticut, and capture Nevada’s first U.S. championship by way of playing.
What else should we know about Hamilton?
The West Side Little League beat Kentucky for the second time last week in the Great Lakes Region.
Ohio scored six runs with two outs in the first inning of the regional title game.
