Las Vegas police have arrested a 21-year-old man in connection with a Wednesday homicide in east Las Vegas.
The Metropolitan Police Department said it arrested Francisco Chairez-Hernandez on Saturday for a shooting in which a bystander was killed at East Bonanza Road and North Lamb Boulevard.
The victim, identified by the Clark County coroner’s office as 51-year-old Karla Abarca, was sitting in the driver’s seat of her vehicle when she was struck in the head by a bullet intended for a man sitting at a bus stop, Metro previously said. Investigators said last week that an armed man got out of a vehicle in a nearby parking lot and approached another man who was sitting at a bus stop. The suspect fired at the man while he ran from the bus stop, striking Abarca.
Hernandez was booked into the Clark County Detention Center for open murder with a deadly weapon, attempt murder with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon, and discharge a gun at/into an occupied structure or vehicle, police said in a Sunday news release.
