A one-year-old pedestrian died in a crash in a western Las Vegas neighborhood on Sunday night, police said.
The pedestrian was a female from Las Vegas.
The crash happened at 6:42 p.m. on Colleen Drive, south of Churchill Street, the Metropolitan Police Department said in a statement.
Police said the driver of a Toyota Sequoia was moving his vehicle and traveling slowly northbound on Colleen. The pedestrian, who is known to the driver, “entered the path of the Toyota without the driver’s knowledge,” police said. As the Toyota was moving forward, it struck the juvenile, knocking her to the ground.
The pedestrian received “substantial injuries” and was sent to University Medical Center, where she later died.
The driver of the Toyota did not show any signs of impairment and cooperated with the investigation, police said.
The crash marks the 71st traffic-related fatality in the department’s jurisdiction this year.
