Shoplifting is a misdemeanor, with little chance of causing serious injury or death. Driving under the influence is a misdemeanor with a high foreseeable probability of serious injury or death. Two things must change in Nevada. DUI needs to be made a low-grade felony, and a dram-shop law needs to be enacted that would assign liability to those who over-serve.
