Clark County strike team firefighters returned home safely from fighting a blaze in northern Nevada.

Firefighters from the Clark County Fire Department, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue, North Las Vegas Fire Department and the Henderson Fire Department assisted in fighting the Ward Fire. The crews spent five days in Ely, Nevada, located over 240 miles north of Las Vegas.

The blaze grew to over 8,500 acres with zero containment as community members in certain areas were notified to prepare for evacuation on Aug. 3. The strike team arrived with engines to support fire supression that day.

Containment grew throughout the week, leading to the strike team to be demobilized, the Clark County Fire Department said in a Saturday release. The Ward Fire has grown to 8,909 acres and is at 35% containment. Remaining fire crews will continue mopping up interior fires with the containment line established.

“The firefighters from Clark County Fire Department, Las Vegas Fire Rescue, North Las Vegas Fire Department, and Henderson Fire Department all returned safely and are glad to be home,” Clark County Fire Department Deputy Chief Brian O’Neal said in the release.
