Lucas Jumalon won the World Series of Poker Main Event on Wednesday at Horseshoe Las Vegas.
Jumalon, a resident of Spokane, Washington, defeated Lauri Saaskilahti during heads-up play and outlasted a field of 9,208 entrants to win the $10 million first prize. Saaskilahti earned $6 million for second place.
Jumalon, 22, led from start to finish at the final table and is the second-youngest winner of the $10,000 buy-in No-limit Hold’em World Championship behind Joe Cada in 2009. Cada was 21. It is Jumalon’s first career WSOP bracelet, which are awarded for tournament victories.
Jumalon won a massive pot an hour into the heads-up duel that left his opponent on fumes with less than 10 big blinds and then sealed the victory shortly after.
Saaskilahti, the head of sales for a packaging company, was seeking to become the first player from Finland to win the Main Event.
