
A motorcyclist died in a crash with a suspected DUI driver, who was arrested, Sunday morning, police said.
The Metropolitan Police Department said a crash occurred at the intersection of East Serene Avenue and South Spencer Street just after 1:45 a.m.
According to a Metro release, a 2025 Baodio 10 Lines motorcycle was traveling northbound on Spencer Street when a 2021 Volkswagen Tiguan made a left turn “against a red turn arrow signal” and collided when it crossed the motorycle’s path of travel.
The motorcyclist, a 23-year-old man, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, Metro said.
The driver of the Volkswagen, Danny Simpkins, 53, suffered minor injuries, showed signs of impairment and was arrested on DUI-related charges, the release said.
The collision is currently under investigation.
