Stars of the day
■ Hannes Steinbach, Charlotte Hornets
In his final taste of Summer League action, the No. 14 overall pick in the 2026 NBA Draft posted a team-high 22 points and 11 rebounds while shooting 70 percent from the field in the Hornets’ loss to the Kings. The double-double by the 6-foot-10 forward was his third in five games after declaring for the draft following a year in which he led the NCAA with 11.8 rebounds per game.
■ Meleek Thomas, Cleveland Cavaliers
Following the announcement that No. 4 overall pick Caleb Wilson would be shut down for the Bulls’ final Summer League game, the spotlight shifted to Thomas, who had already generated plenty of buzz after his previous outings and capped off his week with a 24-point performance Friday. Thomas was selected No. 34 overall in the second round of the 2026 NBA Draft after spending his lone collegiate season at Arkansas, where he averaged 15.6 points per game in 37 appearances, including 21 starts.
■ Egbuka Okorie, Detroit Pistons
Although the Pistons finished just 1-4 in Las Vegas, the No. 17 overall pick stood out in their Summer League finale against the Heat, totaling a game-high 28 points plus four rebounds in the loss. Detroit traded up four spots in the 2026 NBA Draft to select the 6-foot-2 guard, pairing him with forward Ugonna Onyenso to round out its draft class.
Faces in the Crowd
Sacramento Kings coach Doug Christie sat courtside as the franchise wrapped up its Summer League schedule, spending an extended period speaking with No. 7 overall pick Darius Acuff.
Acuff’s Summer League came to an end earlier in the week after a 26-point performance against the Brooklyn Nets, joining other lottery picks such as AJ Dybantsa and Caleb Wilson who were shut down before their teams’ finales.
Top 20 overall recruit in the Class of 2027, Javon Bardwell, was in attendance for the Cavaliers’ matchup against the Bulls. Bardwell, a 6-foot-4 small forward from Atlanta, committed to Kansas in October 2025 and is the No. 2 recruit in the state of Georgia according to ESPN.
