Las Vegas parents spend more on summer camp than any other city, according to a new report.
Las Vegas parents spent approximately $228 on an eight-week summer camp on average, according to a new report from Freedom Debt Relief, which uses data from the U.S. Department of Labor Women’s Bureau’s National Database of Childcare Prices. Factoring in the median family income in Nevada ($85,972), this puts the cost share at 13.8 percent of income over an eight-week period, the highest in the nation.
Las Vegas beats out San Francisco (12.9 percent); San Jose, California (11.2 percent); Los Angeles (10.5 percent); and Seattle (10.3 percent).
“Although California families face much higher bills in raw dollar terms—$3,752 in San Jose and $3,720 in San Francisco—summer camp places a greater strain on household budgets in Las Vegas once local incomes are taken into account,” reads the report. “The findings highlight how summer camp takes a significant bite out of household budgets during the school holidays, leaving families with less financial flexibility during one of the year’s most expensive seasons.”
