A Las Vegas woman was arrested Monday after police said she created child sexual abuse material, which she later posted on social media.
Safarri Mariah Jessop, 32, was charged with two counts of child sexual assault, two counts of using or allowing a minor to produce child sexual abuse material, and three counts of distributing child sexual abuse material. All of the charges are felonies.
Court records indicate that Jessop, who is deaf, is being held without bail.
Jessop is accused of uploading three photos depicting the sexual abuse of a 5-year-old girl on Reddit. Police said that in the photos, the perpetrator’s hand had two freckles near the wrist.
“The National Center of Missing and Exploited Children stated the images within the reports were unfamiliar and possibly newly produced, indicating the possibility of ongoing sexual abuse towards the child,” investigators wrote in Jessop’s arrest report.
Jessop was the first deaf person to win a gold medal at the PanAm Mulimpia Games, a global martial arts competition, according to HandSpeak, an online dictionary and resource guide for those who use American Sign Language.
Online profiles for Jessop indicate that she is also a professional photographer.
Metro said that she was arrested after police matched the account with her Las Vegas IP address. When Jessop was arrested, police noted, she also had two freckles in the same location as the person in the photo.
According to the police report, she told detectives that her Reddit account had recently been deactivated for an “unknown reason.” Jessop denied ever having seen, received, or distributed child sexual abuse on the internet.
“When I showed her sanitized photos of (the child) being sexually abused, Safarri immediately requested an attorney,” one detective wrote.
Jessop’s public defender could not be reached for comment. Jessop is due in court on Wednesday.
