Golden Knights fans, if you subscribe to DirecTV and haven’t figured out a workaround to watch the Stanley Cup Final, now’s the time.
There’s been no reported movement in the dispute that caused KTNV-TV, Channel 13, to go dark on the satellite provider Sunday evening.
The local ABC affiliate is one of 54 broadcast stations owned by Scripps Local Media that are affected by the standoff with DirecTV over the terms of a new contract. At the heart of the dispute are retransmission fees, the money local stations charge TV providers to carry their content.
A similar standoff kept Scripps channels off Comcast’s Xfinity cable systems from March 31 to May 5.
Channel 13 is one of Scripps’ 17 ABC affiliates nationwide. In addition to the Stanley Cup Final, the impasse also affects the ability of DirecTV subscribers in those markets to watch the NBA Finals.
On its website, Channel 13 listed ways to continue watching ABC programming, including digital antennas, YouTube TV, Hulu + Live TV and “other streaming platforms, as well as cable services in our area.” The station’s news and other locally produced content can be seen on ktnv.com and its streaming apps.
Affected customers also should be able to watch the Stanley Cup Final and NBA Finals by logging into the ESPN app with their DirecTV credentials. There is always the option of an antenna to receive the channel over-the-air, with some newer TVs including built-in ones, or cheap ones (under $10) available from retailers like Walmart.
Game 2 between the Golden Knights and Carolina Hurricanes is scheduled for 5 p.m. Thursday.
