Your argument that rent control isn’t necessary in Nevada is illogical (May 20 editorial). Just because rental prices are decreasing doesn’t mean rent control isn’t necessary. Companies that own rental properties make an outrageous amount of profit. That’s why more companies are investing in more apartments.
People who have to pay rent these days can’t afford other things necessary to live, such as food, gasoline and health care. They also cannot afford to save enough to buy their own home. If the rental profits were kept to a reasonable amount so the companies can make a decent profit, they would still invest in more properties. But people who have to rent could have a path out of their situation. Nevada Attorney General Aaron Ford is just calling for profit without exploitation.
