Desert Breeze Park ballfields open
Clark County Commissioner Justin Jones and the Department of Parks and Recreation held a grand opening event for the Desert Breeze Park ballfields, 8275 Spring Mountain Road, on May 2.
The celebration marked the completion of a major expansion project that provides high-quality recreational spaces for athletes of all abilities.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at the new Mike Aker Adaptive Field. After the ceremony, attendees enjoyed exhibition games featuring a four-inning “All Star Exhibition” game by the Miracle League of Las Vegas on the adaptive field and Spring Valley Little League games.
Afternoon activities included face painting, baseball activities and a photo booth, live DJ and performances by the Roger Bryan Elementary School Choir.
The Desert Breeze ballfields project represented a significant investment in the community’s west valley infrastructure. The expansion includes the construction of four new baseball fields built to accommodate youth and community league play, alongside the specialized Mike Aker Adaptive Field. The space was designed specifically for players with physical and cognitive disabilities and is the first in Nevada to be built and managed by a public entity.
“By adding four new premier baseball fields and expanding our parking and facilities, we are meeting the growing demand for youth sports in the west valley,” Jones said. “However, the heart of this project is the Mike Aker Adaptive Field. This specialized space ensures that every child, regardless of physical or cognitive ability, can experience the joy of hitting a home run and being part of a team. We are committed to building a community where recreation is accessible to everyone, and I look forward to seeing these fields filled with athletes for generations to come.”
Desert Breeze Park is a regional recreational facility located in western Clark County. The park features baseball and soccer fields and a dog park. It also includes a skate park, a community center and an aquatic facility with indoor and outdoor swimming areas. The site also features walking paths, picnic shelters and playground structures.

Nevada Realtors hires outreach specialist
Madi Grimm, Nevada Realtors’ engagement and outreach specialist, was hired in December to help strengthen connections across the state. This newly created role was designed to meet community leaders, Realtors, entrepreneurs and future homeowners where they are in an ever-evolving real estate landscape.
Grimm brings professional training and authentic enthusiasm to the work. With a degree in marketing from UNLV and a deep understanding of digital storytelling, she is helping NVR modernize how it communicates with members and the public. At the same time, she is working toward earning her own real estate license in order to fully understand the profession she represents.
She is spearheading two initiatives designed to strengthen the future of Nevada’s real estate industry: building the next generation of Realtors and preparing the next generation of homeowners.
For many young Nevadans, homeownership can feel out of reach amid rising costs, student loan debt and economic uncertainty. Nevada Realtors is working to change that narrative by promoting financial literacy and encouraging early preparation for homeownership.
“Madi on the Streets” is her first visible campaign as a part of this initiative. Through interviews of homeowners and aspiring homeowners, she spotlights real stories from across Nevada on NVR’s social media platforms. The conversations humanize the industry, amplify member voices and demystify the path to homeownership for younger audiences by educating the public on financial literacy, saving early and generational wealth-building.
