The driver of a pickup truck faces driving under the influence and hit-and-run charges after he crashed his pickup truck into a bus shelter near the Strip and hit a pedestrian who is in critical condition Saturday, police say.
The Metropolitan Police Department said in a release that at approximately 2:47 a.m., a 2014 Ram 2500 attempted a left turn from Las Vegas Boulevard onto Sahara Avenue and drove onto the sidewalk. The front of the Ram struck the bus shelter with a 28-year-old pedestrian nearby. The pedestrian was hit by the pickup and projected onto the roadway. The Ram truck fled the scene, driving further westbound on Sahara Avenue.
“The pedestrian sustained substantial injuries and was transported to UMC Trauma by ambulance, where her injuries were determined to be potentially life-threatening,” Metro said in a release.
The driver, Dario Nunez Jr., 38, was found “north of the collision location” later. Nunez showed signs of impairment and was arrested for driving under the influence and hit-and-run related charges, Metro said.
The collision remains under investigation. Anyone with information is urged to call Metro’s collision investigation section at 702-828-3595. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555, visit www.crimestoppersofNV.com,
