The Las Vegas Raiders made their first pick of the second day of the draft on Friday, moving down two spots in a trade before acquiring Arizona defensive back Treydan Stukes.
They now have three total picks on Friday. They also have another defensive back on the roster.
General manager John Spytek called it a “math equation” when asked if he planned to add safety help in the draft as they only had three on the roster.
Stukes gives them versatility. He started his college career at cornerback before kicking inside to the slot and projecting as a nickel at the next level where he can play both in the slot and be moved around like a chess piece.
Here is the grade for the pick: B
Stukes has potential to be a very good player and his versatility will be very valuable for the Raiders.
Spytek also deserves credit for moving down two spots and getting his guy while also moving up 26 spots with a later pick from the fourth round to the third.
Stukes is phenomenal at attacking the ball at the catch point and does it without committing penalties.
The negatives on his resume are knee problems and his age as he will turn 25 around the start of his rookie season.
