The Metropolitan Police Department on Thursday identified the officer involved in a shooting earlier in the week.
Daniel Abraham, 22, has been placed on routine paid administrative leave pending the outcome of a review of Tuesday’s officer-involved shooting at an apartment building in the 200 block of North 11th Street, near East Fremont Street and North Maryland Parkway, according to a news release from Metro.
Metro Capt. Ryan Wiggins previously said officers took a man into custody following a standoff that started at about 5 p.m. Tuesday and lasted until about 11 p.m. Wiggins added that police fired at the man, who has since been identified as George Barrios, 39, after officers confronted him on the fourth floor of the apartment building.
After police opened fire, Barrios retreated into an apartment, Wiggins said, which led to the hourslong barricade. Wiggins said that medical personnel who checked on Barrios when he was arrested said Barrios was not shot.
Arrest records show Barrios is facing counts of assault on a protected person with use of a deadly weapon, destroying the property of another, resisting a public officer with a firearm and possession of a gun by a prohibited person. The Las Vegas Review-Journal reported on Wednesday that Barrios made an initial appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court and was seen with bandages on one of his wrists and one of his hands.
Barrios remained at the Clark County Detention Center as of Thursday, jail records show. Justice Court records state Barrios is being held on $75,000 bail and is scheduled to appear again April 27.
“What we know is police were called due to his erratic behavior,” Wiggins said. “We’ll attempt to interview him and see what he says. It’s too early in the investigation to tell what his mental state was.”
Abraham is currently assigned to the Tourist Safety Division of Metro’s Downtown Area Command and has been with the department since 2025.
Tuesday’s police shooting was the fourth involving Metro in 2026. Wiggins said Tuesday that no officers were injured during the standoff.
