Bishop Gorman’s football team will play national power Mater Dei (California) on Sept. 18 in Santa Ana, California, according to the Mater Dei schedule released on the team’s social media account.
It will be the sixth all-time meeting between the two high school powerhouse programs. Gorman is 0-5 all-time against Mater Dei.
Gorman lost to the Monarchs 27-24 on Sept. 19, 2025, last season in Las Vegas when the Gaels were ranked No. 1 in the country by USA Today and ended the team’s chance at a fifth mythical national title.
A kickoff time has not been released for the game. Gorman has not announced its 2026 schedule.
Gorman went 11-1 last year and finished ranked No. 2 in USA Today’s Super 25 final rankings and Mater Dei was No. 11.
It’s the second California power Gorman will play in 2026. Last month, St. John Bosco announced it would open its season in Las Vegas at Gorman on Aug. 21. It’s the first meeting between the two schools since 2016.
